The th International Cosmic Ray Conference Testing The HiRes Detector Simulation Against UHECR Data
نویسنده
چکیده
The High Resolution Fly s Eye Experiment uses a realistic Monte Carlo program to determine its aperture and resolution We have developed a detailed simulation of the detector response which allows us to generate events that can be compared directly against real data by reconstructing them with the same analysis programs We use a library of proton and iron induced air showers generated with the CORSIKA and QGSJet programs plus a database where conditions that change on a night to night basis are tabulated to simulate the exact data set under study Background light is added to make pattern recognition and event reconstruction be directly comparable to the data We present a detailed set of comparisons between Monte Carlo generated events and actual data taken by the HiRes FADC detector

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE An Alternative Method to Finding Patterns in HiRes Stereo Data
In this paper, Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray (UHECR) data observed by the HiRes fluorescence detector in stereo mode is analyzed to search for events in the sky with an arrival direction lying on a great circle. Such a structure is known as an arc structure. An arc structure is expected when the charged cosmic rays pass through the galactic magnetic field. The arcs searched for could represent a...
متن کاملA Measurement of the UHECR Spectrum with the HiRes FADC Detector
We have measured the energy spectrum of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR) with the HiRes FADC detector (HiRes-2) in monocular mode. A detailed Monte Carlo simulation of the detector response to air showers has been used to calculate the energy dependent acceptance of the air fluorescence detector. The measured spectrum complements the measurement by the HiRes-1 detector down to lower energi...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE A Measurement of the Average Longitudinal Development Profile of Cosmic Ray Air Showers from 10eV to 10eV by HiRes-II
A method to calculate the Average Longitudinal Shower profile has been applied to the High Resolution Fly’s Eye Detector (HiRes) data. A complete detector simulation was used to throw CORSIKA (QGSJET) showers which are then analyzed using the same technique. The main features of the average showers are compared to the Monte Carlo as a function of energy. Systematic errors in the reconstruction ...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Stereo Reconstruction at HiRes
We describe a technique used to reconstruct the energy and Xmax of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) observed by the HiRes detector in stereoscopic mode. This technique calculates the relationship between the number of shower particles at a depth of the shower to the signal in either angular or time bins. This relationship is calculated for a given shower segment location. The estimated num...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment
The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.
